Best MCN for cover videos?

Hey everyone!

After weeks of searching for detailed information regarding which MCN to choose for my newest projects channel i stumbled across your forum and its got more info than every other site combined ive looked through!

So...

I represent the YouTube channel /TheBeefSeeds . A comedy group that play covers of modern and classic hits in a bluegrass style and inject a lot of humor into the videos. Since we started the channel 5 weeks ago, were just shy off 70k views and as we upload new videos every Friday the views keep climbing.

So as far as MCN's and covers, is it only the select few that can allow covers to be monetized (Fullscreen etc) as they have access to publishers back catalogues? And if that is true, after speaking to a lot of artists represented by Fullscreen, it seems there a terrible company to work with as far as rates and customer service and they are currently being sued for underpayments to publishers! We are currently arranging meetings with uk based MCN's to see what they can offer (as we are planning to bring a fair few other channels also under the umbrella and want to establish a good relationship early)

But really i would just love to pick you guys' brains and see what you think as far as do's/dont's and who you think may be the best option for us to sign with, and any advice you have is greatly appreciated! Ill be sure to use YTalk for my questions from now on!

Thanks

Kob

Well I don't know who you were talking with but I am with Fullscreen (FAM) and I love them - fast & great support, they give you guides on how to select/set up your recording equipment (both audio and visual) and also they often feature certain partners on their social media sites. Every fellow FAM members I know are satisfied with Fullscreen's service aswell, not to mention the fact that every big YouTube (cover)artist is with them. Now I'm not in it for the money but you should know (and you probably know because it looks like you've done your research) that even if you're allowed to monetize that given cover video, out of the monetized views the ads are only going to be placed on the ones coming from the US. So you shouldn't expect a lot of money from cover songs unless you have a huge following. :)

You have nice videos. Fullscreen is the only network i know that monetize cover songs. I'm with RPM network before but you can't monetize cover songs with them, it's for Maker Studios partners only, and i don't recommend joining RPM/Maker because i think they're a shady network. Fullscreen is good, but you have to make a lot of views to earn money from covers because the ads only appear for US viewers.

At the moment I believe Fullscreen is the only one to maintain record label licenses for cover songs. It is limited to Universal though I believe. Maker is working on getting the same thing from Universal and others at the moment.

I'd be cautious locking into anything longer than a year though. Fullscreen is being sued over this issue right now.

Thanks so much for all the help Guys! i went with Fullscreen FAM after your advice and are we are now a partner with them

One question as far as the FAM database... the search function on their website is terrible,..

for example; if you search an artist.. e.g. Justin Bieber.. you wont find anything, but if you navigate to the random page number and locate it manually youll find loads of tracks!

Causing me no end of trouble! and its so hard to decide which tracks to do next as theres no 'arrange by date' option.

I love the fact you can now monetize covers but the system is unfortunately atrocious to maneuver through!

were any of your cover videos "claimed" by the artist before you applied for fullscreen? I have some covers that got claimed but i wasnt to sure if i have to delete them before i apply

That's not a problem, I had multiple videos that were claimed and I was still accepted. ;)
