Background music or not?

Should short unspoken tutorials contain (background) music?

  • No, i just want to learn something, it distracts me!

Hi YTtalkers,

I am doing short tutorials video's (0 to about 2 minutes), but those videos don't have sound. Should it be a good idea to add some copyright free music to the videos? (what is a good site for copyright free music?)

Or could music be distracting from learning something.. What are your opinions about this?

I´ve made some tutorials in the past, some with background music. Some people like it, some don´t. It isn´t necessary, but if you feel that the video needs it, do it. Also you can get royalty free music right at incompetech.com. You do need to credit them, but you can use it for free.

If you're going to add music, consider looking into 'ducking'. A lot of softwares allow this, which automatically lowers the background music when it detects someone is speaking. It's what I use for my whiteboard animations.
