For us aspiring partners, what are some key ways to get accepted? How did you promote, grow your channel, grow your subscribers and audience?

I actually tried to apply for partnership, awhile back. But I soon cancelled my application, because as people have said on here. It's very much a waiting game and having luck on your side. Also because google and youtube are stepping up their process, it is harder to get into the youtube partnership programme. As people have said you need loads of subs to be a part of the partnership, that is not even not the case. Because Google and youtube concentrate on how many views you get in your channel, these days you need a crazy amount. I have noticed on the google/youtube forum people who have a billion subscribers often get refused partnership, cause either they are waiting for a long time or not all of their videos are getting loads of attention and it does state in their youtube Q&A videos that where the attention bars are, they all need to be showing red. So having a ton of subs is not the be and end all, it probably helps to have a ton of subscribers. But that is not the important thing. Google/Youtube (as I said) are concentrating on the views because the more views you have on your channel, the more money you make for them and yourself. Because if they let everybody who has over 1,000 subs on their channel it wouldn't be fair and also a financial drain on google/youtube.

Yeah i think it is being focused more on views now or is transitioning to views. ive noticed that my views are coming from 40% mobile devices now which means no ads are being shown to those 40% which i think means youtube will be finding alternative ways to make money and payout to the partners and people who monetize.

Oh I totally agree with that, give youtube their due. They are always coming up with new ways to help people with views.

I think one of the best ways is just talking to people on YouTube and being active on there, obviously in places where others can see because sending messages back and forth privately no one will ever see your link etc if your audience is very general and broad I think just socialising a lot on there and getting to know people will help but thats the problem on there these days, introducing yourself to someone and trying to start a conversation often ends up with them thinking youre just after attention etc this kind of attitude I honestly believe is slowing things down for a lot of people. I know I wouldnt want to try and chat with people if I was going to get that. I know a few people on here will comment on videos regularly with good comments which get thumbed up here and there and that helps but I cant see that working all the time plus it would be very time consuming.

On the old layout channel comments were in peoples faces on every channel unless they were turned off but on most channels your comment would be there with a clear link to yours and not hidden away as it is now so it is a lot harder to get views and subscribers when commenting now so maybe commenting on videos are best these days.

I think they really need to start thinking about YouTube's future and focusing on that because at this rate its very off putting and it seems to me like only those with viral videos will end up partnered or those who were doing pretty well before Cosmic Panda come out, a box somewhere on the homepage with the ten last uploaded videos would work great I reckon for all the newcomers or perhaps some sort of newcomers videos box just to help them out as these newcomers are just as much YouTubes future as those who are massively popular right now.

For you getting partnered I recommend doing whatever you currently do and keep going at it, releasing videos regularly, building up an audience, making sure you improve along the way as things can get stale when they never improve at least a little and make sure people remember you (in good ways of course). Personally I wouldn't apply until around 200k views in total with at least a thousand on each of them before submitting there are people who have been partnered in 3 months with 200k views so I dont think time frame comes into it as long as the views are real. I am not a partner mind you this is just from my observations and what I have heard off others.

I like that idea a lot, although they do have a filter to see that latest uploaded videos but i doubt anyone uses it. i think they need to make it easier to find us "little guys" since a lot of people already know the big youtubers and are subscribed already. I guess we gotta just keep doing what we are doing if partnership is our goal. It's harder these days but as long as the view count continues and the subscribers keep coming then it'll get there

I totally agree Michael with the whole youtube situation, because if you are a newbie starting out. You don't know what to do and it's kind of like putting something from Ikea, you know more or less what to do, but when you actually do it. It doesn't work. Also for the people that are starting they are expecting their first video, videos or video to be popular and then get partnered. Which is very much a long shot. Also not very many people are collaborating and socialising when it comes to making videos, purely because either they live too far away or at times want it on their merit. I actually started a collab channel called Collabchat and I did have a couple of people interested in doing it. But when it came to getting videos from the other members they didn't seem to bother or even care, so I stopped trying. I'm still looking for members by the way. But the thing is (I suppose) it's easier to do it on your own at times, but it's a lot more fun with more people, we have the facility to do that with youtube.

That's a good idea, but what happens if someone you ignored wants to find you or anyone not so nice gets hold of your location.

i just mean general area like city, or county. A lot of peoples channels already say where they are located if they provide that information. It would be simple to add a filter for channels where you could search like 10 25 or 50 or whatever mile radius of a zip code and if course have the option for channels to block themselves from showing up by location. Theoretically all they would have to do is leave there city and zip code info blank on there channel. That would make things so much easier for the "little guys" to find other youtubers near to collaborate with or just to promote themselves with others in there area to gain local popularity. I'm pretty sure a lot more of everyone videos would be shared more if someone knew that the person who made it was in there town.
