They can get pretty annoying at times if your talking about adsense pre roll ads.

I think the make the video look more professional

I think the preroll ads do, but only on videos where views are relatively high. I usually don't add these type of adds until the video gets to a certain number of views.

I do sometimes get annoyed if the adds go on for half a minute. It feels like a waste of time when they're that long :/

I personally think it's silly to have lots of your videos have adds if you're part of the YouTube undergrowth.

Meaning simply, if you're beginning and don't have that many views and subs, i think it's a little pretentious to have lots of adds on your videos.
